Description

This work aims to identify the factors that have contributed to the emergence and development of agtech ventures in the Andean region, as well as to determine the obstacles limiting further ecosystem growth and suggest areas for action in terms of public policies. The study's sample consists of agtech companies, eight originating in Andean countries and two from outside the region, one from Argentina and one from Brazil (with operations in Andean countries). Additionally, a thorough review is conducted of the value propositions, productive and environmental impacts of the solutions developed, the backgrounds of the founding team, the process undertaken to develop the technology underpinning the services, and the growth obstacles and prospects of the companies, among other topics. Based on the lessons learned from the case studies, this work proposes a series of lines of action or public policy interventions that could contribute to enhancing the agtech landscape in the Andean region.
